Denise Newman

UCBG and poets Denise Newman and Hazel White have been awarded a $40,000 grant from the Creative Work Fund to collaborate on a project in the garden. The project is called “Biotic Portal at Strawberry Creek: Language Experiments 1” and involves overlapping sequences of interactive events at the poets’ studio in the garden, on social media, and along the garden creek. Collaborating with members, volunteers, staff, other poets, and visitors, Denise and Hazel will create a poetic reordering of the creek collection. Their studio is between the men’s and women’s bathrooms, by the conference building; they will be there on Fridays from 11–2, starting October 9, and invite you to drop by and ask about the project. Or join them on Facebook.

Walk and Poetic Data Collection

Join poets Denise Newman and Hazel White for a walk along the creek in the UC Berkeley Botanic Garden and help them in their poetic reordering of the plant collection. Their year-long project, Biotic Portal at Strawberry Creek, is funded by the Creative Work Fund. Collect some data with them, challenge their ordering architecture. Does a California native plant get classified as a ready-made?
