Lapageria rosea 'Contulmo'

'Contulmo', a dusky-red colored flower, whose color is of the most intense of the reds. The flower is typically 9 cm long and 5 cm wide and of heavy texture. Cuttings from this cultivar produce a large number of aerial growths. Long fabled as the "copihue negro" (black), 'Contulmo' came to El Vergel nursery  from the Grollmuss family who had discovered it on their farm near the town of Contulmo, beside Lake Lanalhue.  Referred to by many as "Sangre de Toro" (oxblood).
