'Ligtromu' UCBG 52.0792, a white with faint darkening on shoulder, whose color seems not affected by variations in temperatures in the Bay Area hills. Flower is typically 9 cm long and 5.5 cm wide. Vigor is noteworthy. In 1919 the Methodist Church purchase the El Vergel farm outside Angol, Chile (where 'Ligtromu' was growing) from a Chilean that was a fruit grower and nurseryman. I have found cuttings from this cultivar to be the easiest of the Chilean cultivars to root. Producing viable seeds from this cultivar will be affected by the particular cultivar used as the pollen parent, some of which give disappointing results. As the pod parent, it typically produces small seed pods with few seeds, but it redeems itself with a good germination and survival rate. Referred to by many as "White Cloud" or "Nube Blanca". |
