'Nahuelbuta' UCBG 66.0619, a creamy color with violet staining running vertically and more prominent on the outside of the three inner petals. In a mature, healthy plant, violet mottling which gives a lace like appearance is more pronounce on the creamy background of the inside of the three inner petals. Flowers are 9 cm long with a flare of 5.5 cm. Vigor and substance is exceptionally good. Cuttings from this cultivar are not difficult to root and provide strong aerial growths. As the pod parent, it produces large seed pods with hundreds of seeds, despite its high germination rate, its survival rate out of the community pot is less than 75%. In 1919 the Methodist Church purchase the El Vergel farm outside Angol , Chile (where 'Nahuelbuta' and two other forms were growing) from an aging Chilean that was a fruit grower and nurseryman. Nahuelbuta is the name of a high coastal mountain range and a national park in Chile. The Spanish name for this cultivar is "Leon grande". |
