Lapageria rosea 'Quelipichum'

'Quelipichum', a double red, somewhat consistent with providing double flowers (nine petals) throughout the entire plant rather than an occasional double flower from year to year. The flower is typically 10 cm long and 7.5 cm wide and has the appearance of red ruffles strung out over the plant.  The vine strands are typically thin and weak looking, and it is rare to see a thick shoot rise up. 'Quelipichum' came into El Vergel from the Tumbes farm near Talcahuano, Chile then owned by the Sweet family who collected it.  Cuttings from this cultivar are not difficult and provide many aerial growths. Much sought after for it's double flowers, rather than for the elegant look characteristic of copihue flowers.
