Lavender Magic

Enjoy an afternoon of lavender delights. Children of all ages, together with an accompanying parent/guardian will be making lavender wands and create lavender dream pillows while Annabella Dimattei, Bay Area storyteller, tells the story of the lavender fairy.


Saturday July 7, 2007 1 PM - 12 PM
$15, $12 members, price includes one child and one adult. $7, each additional child or adult per family.


Garden Gems of Asia

Walk through the Garden’s Asian Area with Horticulturist Elaine Sedlack as she shows you garden-worthy plants known to be long lived and trouble free. Be introduced to some of the Garden’s newest plantings in Asia such as the maples.

Connections: An African Adventure

Using traditional drumming, singing, dancing and storytelling, Kele Nitoto and friends explore questions of the meaning of music in our lives and the connections of modern and traditional music of the African Diaspora.

Living Dinosaur Food: Preserving The Ancient Cycads

Cycads are primitive cone-bearing plants that have survived for over 250 million years. Once providing food for dinosaurs, most cycads are now endangered in the wild. Garden Director Paul Licht discusses the history, diversity, and conservation of these plants. Experts will guide you through their cultivation and garden design applications; specimens will be available for sale. Includes a tour of the remarkable new cycad collection in the Garden led by Horticulturist Meghan Ray.

Found in all of our biogeographic locations and encompassing an astonishing diversity of form, Ferns make up a critical component of our Botanical Garden. Join Associate Director of Collections and Horticulture, Chris Carmichael to see the Garden’s fantastic ferns.

Marvelous Monocots

From Agaves to Zephyranthes - get your radial symmetry on! Join this back-once-again-by-popular-demand tour of fun, bold, exciting plants that can offer intriguing year round form, foliage, and texture to the garden with Anthony Garza. We'll be covering agaves and their relatives, grasses, restios, palms, cycads, obscurities from abroad, and more.

Registration is required for all programs and events, except the Sick Plant clinic and Plant Sales. Parking is available in the UC lot across Centennial from the Garden.

Program fees include Garden admission. Register early, class space is limited. Cancellations received at least two weeks prior to program date are subject to a $10 service fee. Program fees of $10 or less and cancellations received less than two weeks prior to the program are non-refundable. Full refund if the program is cancelled by the Garden.
