Come see carnivorous plants up close and find out first hand what they really eat. Horticulturist Corina Rieder will have hand lenses and pitchers (trap leaves) for you to examine.

Stop by our explainer table to learn more about Garden fauna from former Associate Director of Collections & Horticulture Chris Carmichael, and Volunteer Docent Dixie Finley. They will have a variety of faunal resources available to explore.

Butterflies with Sally Levinson & Andy Liu
Come chat with Sally Levinson, Garden Volunteer and Caterpillar Lady, and Butterfly Habitat Educator Andy Liu, about butterflies in the SF Bay Area. Check out a viewing table of live specimens.
Does chocolate really grow on trees?! Come discover where one of our favorite foods comes from, see the Theobroma cacao tree, learn about the process of making chocolate, and find out how monkeys help this plant grow. Docents will have an interactive display, including tastings.

Garden docents will be present to explain the many uses of cactus and agave at the Garden’s Cactus & Agave Discovery Station. Discover how these plants have evolved to survive and thrive the harsh desert climate.
