JAPANESE POOL: Pass through the Chiura Obata Gate and enter the Japanese exhibit-- waterfall and pool, including the rocks and a lantern-- donated in 1940 from the San Francisco World’s Fair and Exposition. In the winter, it is framed by the spectacular rhododendron 'trees', many from the 1930's. The Japanese Pool is an important breeding ground for newts (Taricha) native to upper Strawberry Canyon; a frequent visitor focused site for both young and old. An azalea blooming to left will soon be joined by other explosions of color.
