GARDEN OF OLD ROSES: Situated high on the east slope of the Garden with dramatic views of the San Francisco Bay and Golden Gate Bridge, rose cultivars from the 19th and early 20th centuries, and modern roses, are under-planted with many complementary flowering annuals and perennials. Leaving the some stark  mid-winter scene, this splendid display is approaching its peak here in at noon on a sunny day in early May when both the color and fragrance overwhelm the senses. A popular site for small weddings, especially when the pergola is covered with white roses.
