CHANNEL ISLANDS: A prominent collection within the California Area is a bed of plants from the Channel Islands, the most prominent being the giant Coreopsis gigantea. Dormant in summer, they spring a carrot like top in mid-winter with a crown of yellow daisy-like blooms. Interspersed you can seed the large spiny pads of the prickly pear cactus (Optunia).
