GARDEN OF OLD ROSES: Situated high on the east slope of the Garden with dramatic views of the San Francisco Bay and Golden Gate Bridge, rose cultivars from the 19th and early 20th centuries, and modern roses, are under-planted with a wide array of complementary flowering annuals and perennials.

In mid-winter when this view was taken, the scene has not yet come to life, but it changes dramatically in spring with an assault on both visual and olfactory senses. This splendid display peaks in May-June when it becomes a popular site for small outdoor celebrations like weddings.
