Learn the basics of creating a hand-felted textile using plant dyed wool with artist Ashley Helvey. Advance registration required.
This hands-on workshop will introduce children to the joy of natural dyes while they make their own patterns on eggs with brilliant plant-based colors. Price includes 4 eggs per participant. Children must be accompanied by a registered adult. Advance registration required.
Come learn the basics of creating brilliant colors from nature in this introductory workshop on natural dyes. You’ll leave with an understanding of fibers, color selection, mordanting, resist techniques and fabric and yarn samples. Participants may bring a garment or textile from home to dye. Join us for an evening viewing of the Fiber & Dye exhibit and an opportunity to interact with local textile artisans and activists Sasha Duerr of the Permacouture Institute and Rebecca Burgess of The Fibershed Project. We’ll have a panel discussion followed by Q & A, a book signing, and an opening reception for the exhibit. Advance registration required.

Join Professor Margareta Sequin on an adventure to learn the basics of organic chemistry in the world of plant color and fiber. A slideshow presentation will be followed by a walk in the Garden. Advance registration required.
Learn to make water-based paint and inks with plants and earth pigments for use on paper or fabric with local artist and instructor Judi Petitte. Sample paper, fabric sample and brushes, ink rollers, stamps provided. The inks are appropriate for printing on paper or fabric. We will use earth, plant and fungi for pigment. Advance registration required.
