UCBG offers In-School Programs that transport the wonder and excitement of the plant world to students in local schools. Our classroom presentations provide hands-on experiences with plants for grades Pre-K – 4 students*. Docent teams deliver a range of grade appropriate presentations that introduce plant structure, the importance of pollinators, peoples’ use of plants and the connection of plants to animals, especially people.
*Pre-K is students ages 4-5 only.
Botany on Your Plate (Pre-K & up)
Investigate a collection of nutritious roots, stems, leaves, flowers, fruit, and seeds. Students will touch, smell, and taste as they learn about healthy eating and the function of each plant part. Teachers may request to keep the vegetables for class use.
California Natives: Plants and People (Grades 3 & up)
Explore native plants and replicas of artifacts used by California Indians in their everyday lives for food, shelter, clothing, tools, medicine, fiber, music, toys and games.
Plants and Animals (Grades K – 3)
Discover some of the ways animals need and use plants (food, protection, shelter, and oxygen). Without plants there would be no animals, including people! Learn how plants need animals, too.
Pollinators (Grades 2 & up)
Investigate the life cycle of plants including flowers, fruits, and seeds. See how animal pollinators play a crucial role.
