There are many ways you can make a meaningful gift to the Garden and we are here to help. Please see the giving options below and reach out to Director of Development Mary Canales at (510) 643-2937, if you have any questions or need assistance. Please note that the UC Botanical Garden is a unit of the University of California, operating under the tax ID of the UC Berkeley Foundation: 94-6090626.

Recurring Gifts

Recurring gifts create a reliable source of funding, enabling us to better plan for the support and care of our collections. To sign up for a recurring gift, you must visit UC Berkeley Foundation’s giving webpage and search Botanical Garden or click here. Begin to make your gift in the form provided then select “Recurring.” From there, you can select frequency (monthly, quarterly, annually) and duration (until I cancel or until a specific date).

The Garden is unable to keep credit cards on file so we appreciate donors using UC Berkeley Foundation’s system. Thank you!

Corporate Matching Gifts & Workplace Giving

The Garden is grateful for its donors who make matching gifts and/or payroll deductions. To learn if your employer matches, please visit and scroll to the bottom of the page under Employer Matching Gift Search.

Gifts of Stock or From Your IRA

Gifts of stock or gifts from your IRA are an easy way to give to the Garden while realizing significant tax benefits.

Our primary and preferred brokerage account is with Morgan Stanley, and is appropriate for most gifts of securities. All transfers of mutual funds must be sent to our Morgan Stanley account. If you intend on transferring mutual funds, always contact us at 510.642.6791 immediately as certain steps must be taken before the transfer is initiated. Download Morgan Stanley securities transfer form.

The UC Berkeley Foundation also has a brokerage account with Charles Schwab primarily for our donors who have Schwab accounts. Download Charles Schwab securities transfer form.

When you have filled out a transfer form, please (1) provide a copy to your broker and (2) email a copy to us at We cannot sell securities without first identifying the donor. The form includes designation information, please write in “UC Botanical Garden.”

If you have questions, please call 510.642.6791 or email

Digital Currency (Cryptocurrency)

The UC Botanical Garden via the UC Berkeley Foundation can accept gifts of digital currency, and utilizes two platforms, Coinbase and Binance, to help facilitate and liquidate the assets.

To begin the process, please email, with the following information:

  • Your name, postal address, phone number, and email address

  • Quantity and type of digital currency you’d like to donate

  • Estimated value of the gift in US Dollars

  • Where you would like your gift allocated

  • The name of your primary campus contact/fundraiser, if you have one

  • We will get back to you as quickly as possible to confirm the details and to provide you with transfer instructions.

For purposes of recording your donation, we value each donation based on the mean market value of the digital currency type on the day the asset was received in our account. Net proceeds of the sale, minus the campus philanthropic allocation, are allocated to the fund you select. You’ll receive an acknowledgment letter along with IRS Form 8283 (as the IRS considers gifts of digital currency to be property).
